A veteran journalist, Robert Daniel Akpan, has appealed to well meaning Nigerians to come to his aid as his eye problem gets worse and may completely go blind if he does not go for N3m eye operation in Lagos State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Akpan has been battling Cataract eye problem for the past 30 years and has been buying expensive drugs to suppress it but the situation got worse recently when he cannot see with his left eye.

Cataract is a condition that clouds the lens in the eye and affects vision. If left untreated, cataract can cause severe vision loss or blindness.

According to Akpan, he went to both private and Lagos General Hospitals to know what was wrong as he cannot see with his left eye. Doctors conducted tests on his two eyes and confirmed his fears on the eyes.

“Doctors told me that my left eye has damaged completely and I cannot see with it again in life and it has affected my right eye and I may not see with it. And I need urgent operation otherwise it will completely get damaged and I will go blind.”

A worried Robert Akpan explained that he has checked the cost of embarking on such operation on the right eye and was given an estimate of over N3m for the operation and had no such money to do so.

He explained that already, he cannot see with the right eye if he does not take drugs and the drugs are quite expensive. But what put more fear in him was the recent tests conducted by Doctors and told him that he needs urgent operation or he will be blind.

The Akwa Ibom State-born Robert Daniel Akpan has practiced journalism in Nigeria and worked in different media houses including Guardian Newspaper before he established his own Newspaper but because of the eye problem he was unable to continue due to health challenges.

Robert Daniel Akpan was known for his prowess in investigative journalism and has unmasked the activities of the criminal elements in Nigeria through crime reporting for a better society.

He is appealing to the amiable Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, AIG Zone 2 Onikan, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale, Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria and well meaning Nigerians to assist him to embark on the operation so that he will not go blind.
