Veteran Thespians Sadiq Daba, Iya Rainbow, Ngozi Ezeonu Bag BON Special Recognition Awards

For the 11th consecutive year, the organisers of the Best of Nollywood Awards, BON, has again chosen another set of veteran thespians –Sadiq Daba; Idowu Philips, popularly known as ‘Iya Rainbow’, and Ngozi Ezeonu as the recipients of its prestigious Special Recognition Awards.

In a statement on Wednesday by the organisers, the three honourees at this year BON Awards are been recognised specially for their contributions to the industry.

Sadiq Daba, aside his numerous other roles but was outstanding for his role as Inspector Waziri” in the Kunle Afolayan’s movie, October 1; Idowu Philips, whose stage name is ‘Iya Rainbow’ has had a remarkable deliveries in hundreds of productions, while the third recipient, Ngozi Ezeonu is a popular actress with over 150 movies to her credit.

The awards is instituted to recognise and celebrate the Nigerian movie industry practitioners with focus on their hardwork, tenacity and steadfastness over the years, as well as ensuring that the Nollywood, as the industry is popularly known, is at the fore front and at par with same industries around the world.

Daba, the award winning actor, who once worked as a broadcaster for Nigerian Television Authority, came to prominence in the late 1970s, starring in Cockcrow at Dawn.

Iya Rainbow was a trained nurse who worked with various General Hospitals in Nigeria for several years. She initially was moonlighting as an actress with a theatre group but went full blast after the demise of her actor husband, Augustine Ayanfemi Phillips. She has featured in several Nigerian films, including Apaadi, Eru, and Aje ni iya mi among others.

Ezeonu starred in Adesuwa, a role that earned her the Best supporting actress nomination at the 8th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

The 2019 edition of BON Awards, slated for December 14 promises to be memorable
