A 30-year old man, Chibuike William who was arrested after his gang reportedly burgled a telecommunication company in Lagos and stole 24 pieces of back-up batteries worth N2.8 million has confessed that he was not properly trained as a robber.

William was the only person among his five-member gang arrested after their operation failed, while others escaped.

The company burgled is A.T.C Nigeria whose office is located behind Anglican Church in Olodi Apapa area in Lagos.

The suspect said he just joined the gang and didn’t know it was a full robbery operation they were embarking on.

William, who was arrested and charged before Apapa Magistrate’s court with stealing, attributed his predicament to inexperience as he had no basic training in robbery operation which made his arrest much easier.
P.M EXPRESS gathered that it would not be the first time the company would be burgled and same items stolen.
Our Correspondent gathered that the suspect and others went to the company at around 11p.m and broke into the battery shelter to steal the items.
It was while they are about to take the stolen items away that some security officers caught them. But others fled, while William was apprehended and handed over to the police.
At the station, he denied knowledge of how the same items were stolen in the past but admitted participating in the latest robbery for the first time. He however pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr M.A. Etti granted William bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 23 February 2017
