The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Sola Aiyepeku, has expressed good feelings that the champions of the 6th edition of the Lagos Women Run are Nigerians.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of this year’s race at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Saturday, Sola Aiyepeku disclosed that the winners are Nigerians rather than in times past when international athletes dominated the race.

“It’s a shift in culture trend going on”Aiyepeku stated that one of the things that the government of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been on about is changing culture, lifestyle culture, health culture and the kind of vision the State imbibes.

“We are happy with this edition, the change was better and we are seeing something new today, and hopefully we will grow on it,” said Aiyepeku.

An Ondo State indigene, David Abiye Joy, was crowned as the champion of the Lagos women mini-marathon, with a time of 33: 41:4. Mary Osagie is the first runner up with 34:06:03.

While the second runner up Haruna Awawu completed the race with 34:33:06.

“I really thank God because, with this, I am still going to put more effort and not going to give up,” Abiye said.

Also, Abiye Joy, thanked the Lagos State Government for sustaining the event, adding that it’s a platform that is “selling women to the world in a magnitude”
