What Tinubu Needs To Do To Beat Atiku in 2023 Elections –APC Chieftain

Posted on June 14, 2022

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Ambassador Yomi Mumuni has identified what the presidential flagbearer of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu needs to do to beat his leading challenger of opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.

In a press statement issued by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar in Lagos, Mumuni congratulated Asiwaju on his victory at the primary. He said the former governor of Lagos State is a political juggernaut who has once again displayed his capacity and mastery of the game.

Tinubu won the primary with 1,271 votes, with his closest challenger, former Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi gathering 316 votes, and the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo coming a distant third with 235 votes.

“I congratulate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his well-deserved victory at the presidential primary of our great party, the All Progressives Congress. For us who have been monitoring his political sojourn for a long time, Asiwaju has once again demonstrated his capacity and mastery of the game in the just concluded primary.

“Asiwaju is a major investor in human capital development. A bridge-builder, who has allies across and beyond the country. His efforts over the years have finally paid off with a step to the realisation of what he called his long-term ambition. I rejoice with him and wish him good luck.”

Mumuni, the Aare Jagunmade of Lagos, however, advised the Jagaban to extend the olive branch to political actors that contested the primary with him in order to defeat the political warlord, Atiku.

“Now that the primary election is over, Asiwaju Tinubu must reach out to his fellow contestants and other relevant persons, including the Vice President. Asiwaju needs Osinbajo to win more votes from his constituency. He cannot do it alone. He actually needs others to defeat his rival, who is also a political veteran.

“Extending communication to the aggrieved members and those abandoned in the defunct CPC and ANPP is also sacrosanct, for them to see reason in working with him. Politics, they say, is a game of numbers.

Mumuni, a former gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Lagos State, however, noted that while the CPC bloc has yet to receive fair treatment and proper inclusion in the politics and governance of Lagos, he could not fail to recognise the greatness in Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who he described as a leader of leaders.

“I urge all political stakeholders to truly rally round our candidate as they have promised. Our party should succeed President Muhammadu Buhari. We must do everything possible to prevent the PDP from regaining power,” he said.

“With Atiku Abubakar, it’s definitely not going to be an easy ride for Asiwaju. He needs to also get it right in terms of choosing a running mate. Considering the northern politics, Asiwaju will need to extend his consultations beyond party politics for him to arrive at a formidable running mate with substance. The 2023 general election is going to be another watershed in the history of our nation. I wish our party resounding success”, he said.
