World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General will address Collision from Home on global pandemic

Wednesday, Collision from Home announced that Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization will be speaking at Collision from Home this June 23-25.

The director-general will be asked about Covid-19 and the fight against this unprecedented global pandemic from the unique viewpoint of the World Health Organization’s overarching access to the frontline.

Tedros is an Ethiopian microbiologist and internationally recognized malaria researcher who has served since 2017 as director-general of the World Health Organization.

Event organisers are putting the focus on healthtech for their first ever online event. It will bring together startups, academics, medics and investors from the field, including as Patrice Harris, president of the American Medical Association; Vas Narasimhan, CEO of Novartis; Leana Wen, visiting professor of health policy and management of George Washington University; Dorry Segev, professor of surgery and epidemiology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; and David Kopp, CEO at Healthline Media.

These industry leaders will shine a light on how tech is addressing and accelerating solutions to the global pandemic.

Young agile startups are creating faster and quicker solutions to democratise health care. Everlywell, a healthtech startup set to speak at Collision from Home, secured authorization from the FDA to launch self-administered, at-home Covid-19 diagnostic kits.

“We’re incredibly humbled to welcome Dr Tedros Adhanom, one of the most important people in the world right now, to Collision from Home. This global pandemic has created a warlike scenario where the health industry is in an arms race, except the arms are not weapons – they are medical advancements that will save lives, such as tracking systems for contact tracing, and super fast testing.

“We are desperate to return to any kind of ‘normal’ and, now more than ever, we are relying on everyone in the field, from world leaders in medicine to the nurses on the frontline. I believe the tech advancements we’ll make over the next year and into 2021 will be incredible, and change the way healthcare is run forever,” says Paddy Cosgrave, founder and CEO of Collision from Home.

P.M. EXPRESS understands that over 450 speakers will feature in this year’s edition.

Collision is known by CBC as the “TIFF for tech”, while Inc. Magazine coins it the “fastest-growing tech conference in North America”. Collision is set to move online for 2020 with Collision from Home. Collision will return to Toronto as a physical event for the second year from June 21-24, 2021, at the Enercare Centre.

Forbes says Web Summit is “the best tech conference on the planet”; Bloomberg calls it “Davos for geeks”; Politico, “the Olympics of tech”; The Guardian, “Glastonbury for geeks”; and, in the words of Inc. Magazine, “Web Summit is the largest technology conference in the world”. Whatever Web Summit is, it wouldn’t be possible without an incredible team of over 200 employees based in Dublin, Lisbon, Toronto and Hong Kong, including world-class engineers, data scientists, designers, producers, marketers, salespeople, and more. They’ve disrupted an old industry by building incredible software and designing mind-blowing events, revolutionising how people and ideas come together to change the world.
