The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal nullified the election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on the ground that he did not win the highest number of votes cast after deductions.
The Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal deducted 165,663 votes recorded in favour of the NNPP Governorship candidate on the ground that 165,673 ballot papers were not stamped and signed by the presiding officers and were therefore, invalid.
Section 60 (1)  of the Electoral Act 2022 provides that the Presiding Officer shall, after counting the votes at the polling unit, enter the votes scored by each candidate in. a form to be prescribed by INEC as the case may be.
Section 60 (2) of the Electoral Act provides that the form shall be signed and stamped by the presiding officer and counter-signed by the candidates or their polling agents where available at the polling unit.
After the deduction of the 165,663 votes from the total number of votes scored by the NNPP, the APC candidate overlooked him and accordingly, the Tribunal declared the APC candidate, Nasir Gawuna as the duly elected Governor of Kano State.
