Woman, 27, Docked For Engaging Rival In Public Fight

A 27-year old woman, Ifunanya Solomon, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly engaging a female rival, Ngozi Okorie, in a public fight and inflicting injury on her. 

 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Akani Street, Onireke area of Ojo, Lagos State, where they reside.

 

According to the Police, the suspect had on 11th September, 2024, assaulted the victim, Ngozi Okorie, with fist blows all over her face, which caused her bodily harm over an undisclosed matter.

 

The Police did not disclose the cause of the fight between the suspect and the victim, who were said to be rivals in the compound and their neighbours had tried in vain to make peace between them.

 

Her conduct was reported to the Police at Onireke Division. The Police moved into action, arrested and detained her at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct.

 

After interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ojo Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

 

Part of the charge read:

That you, Ifunanya Solomon “F” on 11/09/2024 at about 0810hrs at No. 5, Akani Street, Onireke, Ojo, Lagos State, in the Ojo magisterial district, did assault one Ngozi Okorie ‘F’ with fist blows all over her face, causing her bodily harm and thereby committed an offence on contrary and punishable under Section 178 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2015.”

 

However, she pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Supol Simeon Uche, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.

 

The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

 

The matter was adjourned till 21st October, 2024, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
