Woman, 43, Docked For Flogging Female Neighbour During Public Brawl

A 43-year old woman, Chinwe Nwaru, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly flogging her female neighbour, Joan Oghenerume and inflicting injury on her during a public brawl. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 6th March,2026, at Fatai Ahmed Street, ljeododo, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the woman had a disagreement with the complainant, which led to exchange of words. In the process, she pushed the victim down and used a cane to whip her seriously and injured her.
The matter was reported to the Police at Isheri Oshun Division. The woman was arrested and detained at the station for interrogation over her alleged conduct against the complainant.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.
The charges read:
COUNT I:”That you, CHINWE NWARU ‘F’ on 6/3/2026 at about 2200hrs at NO.11 Fatai Ahmed Street, ljeododo Lagos, in the Lagos magisterial district, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by pushing down your neighbour one Joan Oghenerume ‘F’, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168(d) law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.”
COUNT II:”That you, CHINWE NWARU ‘F’ on the same date, place and time at the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Joan Oghenerume ‘F’ by flogging her with a with a cane, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 172 of the criminal law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Simeon Njue, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, F.R. Ogunkoyode, granted her bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 12th May, 2026, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
