Woman, 47, Arrested Over Death Of Pregnant Woman At Trado-Medical Centre

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Eremi area of Okeafo, Badagry area of Lagos State, where the centre is located.

The Police also arrested the deceased woman’s husband,  Dosumu Akeem, for his alleged involvement in the death of his wife.

Both Mrs. Arebe and Akeem were arrested and had been charged before the Court for conspiracy and murder.

According to Police sources, trouble started after the late Mrs. Omolola was due to be delivered of her baby and the husband was said to have taken her to the centre instead of General Hospital or a private hospital, which knew much of delivery of babies.

While Mrs. Arebe, who claimed that she can take care of the delivery of the baby, admitted her during the labour period, there was delay for the deceased to be delivered of the baby. Mrs. Arebe then reportedly used a knife to cut some parts of her body inside the womb for the baby to come out.

However, in the process, she caused more damages by cutting off some parts and the woman bled to death in the process. She was said to have claimed that she made a mistake during the process. The dastardly act was reported to the Police in the area and they were arrested and transferred to the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation over their conduct.

After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and subsequently charged them before the Yaba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment if they are tried and found guilty before the Court.

When they were arraigned, the Court did not take their plea after the prosecutor,  Supol Rita Momah, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice due to the nature of the offence they allegedly committed.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Adeola Olatunbosun, ordered their remand in custody pending when the DPP’s report will be ready and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
