Woman, 49, Arrested For Stealing New Born Baby At Hospital For Sale To Client

A 49-year old woman, Modinat Faniyi, has landed in trouble in Lagos State after she went to a hospital, stole a new born baby, which she had wanted to sell to her client and she was caught in the act. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Ahmadiya Muslim Hospital located at Ijaiye, Ojokoro area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect,  went to the hospital and pretended to be one of the patients, who went there for treatment, whereas she had another motive.
The motive later manifested when a pregnant woman, Adul-Lateef Shukurat, was delivered of a baby. And few hours later, the suspect, Modinat, stole the baby and left the hospital.
However, in her bid to escape, she was apprehended and handed over to the Police in the area. She was subsequently transferred to the SCID, Yaba, for further investigation over her alleged conduct.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found her culpable and subsequently charged her before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
When she was arraigned, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Patrick Nwaka, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment.
The matter was adjourned till 1st September, 2023, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
