Woman, 55, Docked For Stealing 3-Year Old Child

Operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Squad 2 have arrested a 55-year old woman, Funmilayo Olanrewaju, for allegedly stealing another woman’s 3-year old son, Mohammed Nasiru, in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect was arrested at Yaba area of Lagos after she allegedly stole the child belonging to Mr. Idris Adamu.
According to the Police, the suspect conspired with others now at large and stole the little boy for an undisclosed purpose before information got to the Police. The operatives then trailed, eventually arrested and detained her at the Command for interrogation.
After rounds of interrogation, the Police found her culpable and consequently charged her before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
“That you, Funmilayo Olanrewaju ‘F’ and others at large, on the 10th day of January, 2025 at about 1330hrs at Yaba Area in the Lagos Magisterial District, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit Child Stealing and thereby committed an offence Punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II: “That you, Funmilayo Olanrewaju ‘F’ and others at large, on the same Date, Time and Place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal one 3-year old Mohammed Nasiru ‘m’ son of Mr. Idris Adamu and thereby Committed an offence Punishable under Section 277 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. T.A. Tanimola, granted her bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
