A housewife, Mulikat Abdulrasheed, may have been swindled with marriage proposal after she later discovered that her husband, Abdullahi, was jobless and has no means of livelihood to feed his family of three children in Kwara State.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Mrs. Mulikat has filed a divorce suit before an Area Court in Ilorin, on grounds that her husband, Abdullahi, was jobless and had no source of livelihood.

She explained that while their neighbours prepare and go to work, her husband will stay at home doing nothing from morning till night.

The embattled woman told the Court that the marriage was arranged by her uncle, she accepted and got married to her husband, Abdullahi. However, she narrated that when she got married, she discovered that her husband was jobless and had no money or source of livelihood.

She explained that she has given birth to three children before she discovered that the situation was unbearable and she will not be able to cope with the marriage.

“My uncle arranged the marriage with Abdullahi. I didn’t know that he was jobless, had no money or any source of livelihood. I later realised that he had no money after giving birth to my first born. I told my mother I couldn’t continue living with him but she begged me to be patient and persevere.”

“I persevered and gave birth to three children for him. I cannot remain in the marriage. The situation is unbearable. I have been responsible for taking care of the children and providing their needs,” she said.

The presiding Judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, while delivering judgment in the case, said that Abdullahi sent a letter through the court bailiff accepting the divorce application.

Aluko thereby dissolved the marriage and ordered the petitioner to observe the one month Iddah (waiting) period before she can remarry.

He ordered that a copy of the judgment should be served on Abdullahi as proof that he was no longer married to the petitioner.
