Woman Loses N6.5m Hidden Under Her Bed

A woman simply identified as Mrs. Esther, who avoided using the bank for her savings and reportedly hid N6.5 million under her bed kept in a  ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag for several days has lost the whole money to thieves who invaded her residence.

The incident happened in Ajah area of Lagos where the woman resides.

Police source said that the woman was targeted by one of her neighbours who connived to steal the money and escaped when she was not around.

When she eventually returned, Madam Esther went where she kept the money under her bed but did not find it.

She then raised alarm which attracted neighbours and told them the amount of money involved.

Some of her neighbours expressed shocked but wondered what would have made the woman to keep such huge sum of money under her bed instead of keeping it in the bank.

Some residents believed source of the money was not genuine and so she decided to hide it in her house but unfortunately the money was stolen.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the matter was reported to the police who started investigation and arrested one of the suspects.

The suspect, a 26-year old Ikenna Okoronkwo was arrested after he suddenly bought a fairly used Lexus SUV with registration number EkY529EP some days later after the money was lost.

P.M.EXPRESS learnt that Okoronkwo was one of those begging around for money to eat and so his sudden change of status became suspicious in the area and the police was informed.

He was arrested and taken to SARS at Ikeja to explain how he suddenly became rich and was accused of being an armed robber.

It was gathered that he denied being an armed robber and revealed that he bought SUV from the money he stole from Esther’s apartment.

The SUV was retrieved from him and he was charged before the Ikeja Magistrates court for stealing.

He pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Layinka granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 11 November, 2017.
