Woman Sent To Prison For Slapping Female Lawyer

A 21-year-old cleaner and a resident of 315, Moloney Street, Lagos Island, Blessing Christopher has been arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court for allegedly slapping a Lagos female legal practitioner and her co-tenant, Barr. Rita Adimora.

The defendant,a native of Lantang area of Plateau State, according to the police, was ordered arrested by the DPO in charge of Lion Building Division, Lagos Island, CSP Folashade Tanaruno following a complaint by the victim.

After investigation by Sgt. Ugo Nwankudu and his team, Blessing was charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a one count charge of unlawfully slapping the complainant and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Oladejo Balogun informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on 29 August, 2016 at 315, Moloney Street, Lagos Island where she resides with the complainant.

Balogun told the court that the defendant accosted the complainant at their residence on the day of the incident and allegedly slapped her several times for no reasons.

He said when the complainant asked her what was her offence, she continued to slap her until residents came to her rescue.

Balogun said the offence is punishable under section 170 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State,2011.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the police allegations in the open court and the presiding Magistrate,Mr Amos admitted her on bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Amos adjourned the case till 22 September,2016 for mention while the defendant was taken to KiriKiri Prisons, Apapa, Lagos pending when she will fulfill her bail conditions.
