A 38-year old employee of Palmora Nigeria Limited, Faruk Bashar, has been arrested and charged for allegedly swindling the company to the tune of N8m in Lagos State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on 23rd January, 2024, at Ikorodu Road, Maryland area of Lagos, where the company is located.
The Police did not state the position of the suspect in the company for him to have access to such huge sums of money claimed by the management to have been stolen.
According to the Police, the company conducted an internal audit and discovered that the money was missing and reported the matter to the SCID at Yaba for investigation, which led to the arrest of the suspect.
After investigation, the Police found the suspect culpable and consequently charged him before the Yaba Magistrate Court for the alleged stealing, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Supol Thomas Nurudeen, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. P.E. Nwaka, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
