Posted on July 31, 2023

It was a tension-soaked last group encounter between Republic of Ireland and the Super Falcons of Nigeria. Whilst the Irish were playing for pride, the Nigerian girls were bent on ensuring their safety to the knockout stage.

And it did end goalless with the Super Falcons picking the knockout ticket after finishing second position behind Australia.

And characteristically, Nigeria’s foremost football fans group, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), have sent their congratulatory message to the Nigerian team for qualifying for the rounds of 16 games.

In the message, the National Chairman of NFSC, Ambassador (Rev). Samuel Ikpea described the qualification as a well-deserved one, in view of the efforts and dedication of the team, as it braced several odds and challenges.

“This team has done well and made us proud. I say thank you and congratulations on their qualification to the knockout stages.”

He enthused that the team has the potentials to better its 1999 world cup quarter-final feat.

“This team can do better and improve upon the 1999 quarter-finals achievement. Inasmuch as they need our prayers and support, they should also remain determined, disciplined and committed towards their targets.”

He went on to make further appeal to the Australian High Commission to expediate action and grant the members of the NFSC, the needed visas to attend ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“Once again, we’re appealing to the Australia High Commission to grant our visa requests. It is obvious that our girls are missing our presence in their games. They shouldn’t deny our requests because we have met all necessary requirements for the for the visa process,” Ikpea appealed.
