As a step towards reducing challenges facing schools in Lagos, Young Africa Educational Support Initiative YALES in collaboration with Lagos State Ministry of Education has once again reiterated its commitment to boost optimal educational growth and ensure that students with Psychological problems in Schools would be taken care of.

This was disclosed by Executive director of YALES, Tayo Owosina at the Excellence In School Counselling Conference which took place at the New Era Girls Secondary School, Surulere, Lagos.

The event was tagged ‘Building Together In Challenging Times” was organized to strengthening student-counsellor relationship and cultivating resilience for effective career development of in-school adolescents.

The conference recorded massive, positive responses from the counsellors who directly have contact with the school students.

Owosina revealed that excellence in school counselling conference 3.0 hosted by the education district four is an amazing saying that the event was organized to know more challenges in schools.

“I think we were able to do a great job, and I can say this with the feedback we received from our school counsellors, For us, we know there are psychological problems in school and students are not able to perform to that optimal level and it’s given the government a serious concern at the state and national level.

“We believe that with our interventions, of course we started with schools one on one but we’ve seen that there is so much we can do going to school. So collaborating with Lagos government really helped us and with the feedback we have gotten from them,I think we are impressed. This conference made us to understand that the counsellors themselves are willingly and ready to go back to their various schools and do better,” he said.
