Youth Games: Team Lagos Close To Winning 4 Boxing Gold In Tuesday’s Finals

Team Lagos maintained their dominance in Nigerian boxing with the performance of their pugilists at the ongoing National Youth Games holding in Ilorin Kwara State.
No fewer than four Lagos boxers have battled their ways to the medal zone of the boxing event in what could be described as a smooth sailing to the finals in both boys and girls bouts decided on Monday.
Interestingly, going by their performance since the boxing event of the tournament began on Sunday, there is no doubt that Team Lagos should be expecting four gold medals from the boxers.
Idowu Mistura qualified for the final through abandonment at the second round. Ogunleye Oluwatobiloba, fighting in the – 44kg beat her opponent from Borno, Ogunmodede Hawau 5 – 0 in the semifinal bout.
Opaleye Kehinde won his fight against Akinsanya Ayomide of Ogun State 4 – 1 to pick the final ticket, while Ijomoni Malik, who fought in the – 48kg also zoomed into the final after she defeated Oshikoya Faruq of Ogun State.
Lagos state female football team clinched the gold medal of female football after defeating Team Delta
The Lagos girls spanked their opponents from Delta 1-0 in the final decided at the Kwara Stadium early on Monday.

Lagos deaf athletes delivered on their promised to bring 6 gold medals for the state at the NYG. And true to their words, the 6 gold medals were delivered with 3 silver and 2 bronze medals in the field games at the Maracana Stadium inside the University of Ilorin.
The female volleyball team of Lagos State settled for bronze in the third-place match played on Monday, while handball male and female teams won silver and bronze medals respectively.
Meanwhile, Monday was a day of multiple medals for the Lagos team inspired by the Executive Chairman, Sola Aiyepeku and the Director-General, Oluwatoyin Gafaar as many events in which the athletes had qualified into medal zones turned out good for the state.
Egbahkumeh Osiregbemeh Joseph picked a gold medal in golf, Godwin Hope Favour won the bronze medal on Board 4 in the chess event. Two gold medals Kuti Mathew (singles) and the duo of Aishat Rabiu and Akanbi Taiwo gave the state a gold medal in the table tennis event, while Kuti Mathew and Rabiu Aishat settled for silver in the mixed doubles, just as Aishat Rabiu got bronze in the girls’ singles.
In tennis, Lagos picked a silver medal in the boys singles and bronze in the girls’ doubles on Monday.
