A jobless man, Mr Nathan (surname withheld) made a startling revelation which seemed to have become the trend in some homes when he said it has been difficult for him to demand sex from his wife because she has been the one feeding him and the entire family.

He also revealed that since he lost his job and has been unable to get another, he had been at home doing the domestic chores while his wife goes to work to brings money home.

Following the revelation, P.M.EXPRESS went to town to find out how jobless men cope in their various homes and our findings showed that certain measures have been taken by men in various homes to be able to cope and keep the family intact.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that such measures in most cases necessitated a swap in the leadership role in the homes.

The women took the leading and decision making role while the men got relegated to domestic chores.

This development did not show that such women deliberately did so, but the men had to adjust as situation demanded.

Some of the men who spoke to our reporters admitted that they ceded certain powers and roles to their wives because of their new roles as bread winners in their family.

One Mr. Thompson said he was working in a private company, suddenly lost his job and since then had not gotten another one and had no money to take care of his family.

He said that it was his wife that has been taking care of him and family and so he had to adjust his powers at home in order to cope with his condition.

He said his wife used to drop money for feeding the family and pocket money for him before she leaves in the morning and usually returned late in the evening.

In her absence therefore, he will have to clean the house, cook, feed their children and keep her own food to serve her upon her return.

Thompson narrated that though he was not happy with the swap of roles but he had to accept the reality and adjust for now.

He went further to say that his wife’s moods determined whether they’ll have sex or not; whenever she made any suggestive move for that and not from him.

“You cannot demand sex from a woman that goes to work all day and comes back home weak and equally brings money to feed you,” Thompson said.

Another man simply known as Tony said he was forced to retire from an electricity distribution company and joined business which collapsed few months after he started it.

He said since then, he has not been able to do any other thing and he has been feeding from the income his wife was earning.

Tony said it has not been easy being jobless and he had to manage and allow his wife to have her way in the family, otherwise things would have become worse for him and their four children.

He narrated that though his wife still respected him as her husband, but that has been to a certain limit because she knew she was in charge.

He said sometimes his wife usually rebuked him and he had to bear and had been trying not to make unnecessary demands from her including sleeping with her.

Some of the men who lost their jobs in one way or other who spoke to our correspondents narrated similar situations in their homes but maintained they were determined to secure new jobs in order to reclaim their leadership roles, while a few others had given up and decided to live that way.

Some of the women who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS said that when a man cannot take care of his family, that naturally he will be relegated in the home.

One Mrs. Esther Okeke said that she agreed that men remained the heads of the family but added that it will only apply where they continue to provide for their wives and family.

She said, “any man who does not provide for his family should be prepared to serve his wife because he has lost that leadership role”

Mrs. Okeke went further to say that some men did maltreat their wives when things were going on well for them and so when things turned the other way round, those women will not easily forget what they went through and so will like to use their advantage even if temporarily.
