A 19-year old, Olu Chika, who was arrested with wooden gun, said that he used it to earn a living but refused to disclose how such wooden object put food on his table.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Police arrested Chika with the wooden gun on Ago Palace way in Okota, Lagos, during routine checks in the area.
He was accosted, searched before the Police discovered the wooden gun and detained him at the police station for interrogation. He was later transferred to the operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS, Ikeja, Lagos, for investigation.
During interrogation, he insisted that he was not a criminal but used the wooden gun to sustain himself but refused to disclose how such wooden object can put food on his table.
Police sources said that the suspect and others now at large used such objects to intimidate and rob people but in this case, the suspect, Chika was found with wooden gun without any incidence of violence.
The Police found him culpable and charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for displaying arms in public and being in possession of wooden gun meant to cause terror to the public.
He pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The prosecutor, Inspector Christopher John, asked the Court to give a date for facts and sentence since he pleaded guilty to the charges.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Peter Nwaka, ordered him to be remanded in prison custody without an option of bail.
The Court then fixed 17th June, 2019, for the prosecutor to present the facts before the Court so that he can be sentenced accordingly.
