Facts have emerged on what really transpired before a police officer was brutally mobbed to death in the Ifako Ijaye area of Lagos by suspected members of a cult group recently.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Police Sergeant, Mr. Collins Esibor, was brutally attacked by a mob and those who participated in the dastardly act ensured that he was dead before they went on to vandalise a police patrol van stationed  to provide prompt security response in the area.

The incident happened on 28th August, 2018, at Haruna Bus Stop, Ifako Ijaye close to Ogba, Lagos.

It was believed to have been perpetrated by a suspected cult group in revenge over the death of their member who was said to have committed a crime and attempted to escape through the fence but died in the process. The group then vented their anger on the innocent police officer who was at his duty post.

The death of Sergeant Esibor threw the entire police family into shock and mourning as they expressed fear that they were no longer safe while performing their lawful duties.

One of the suspected native doctors for the cultists

However, the Lagos State Commissioner of the Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, has restored hope to the officers as he moved into action to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

10 suspects have so far been arrested including two native doctors suspected to be providing charms for the cult group for their illegal operations. That was confirmed by the police boss who vowed that the Command will do everything possible to unravel and prosecute those behind the murder.

The two natives doctors were an 82-year old Babatunde Rufai and Ariyo Elegbede. Others were Adewunmi Suleiman, 28, Olorunda Michael, 21, Omoba Idowu, 27, Olarewaju Hammed, 20, Ransom Adewuye, 27, Ayo Adeyanju, 27, Anu Akinola, 24 and Ige Paul Akanbi. They were arrested and paraded at the Police Command, Lagos.

During their parade with other suspects, Mr. Edgal said that an urgent manhunt was launched which led to the arrest of the suspects who were the key actors in the crime. He said that investigations revealed that the suspects were cultists as attested by one of their members, Ayo Adeyanju, who carried the corpse of their late member to the burial site.

Ayo Adeyanju said that on their way, the group decided to avenge the death of their late member by attacking the police officers and the patrol van which led to the death of Sergeant Asibor despite the fact that the police had no physical contact with their late member.

According to the suspects, their late member sighted police officers within their vicinity and attempted to scale a fence believing that the police was after him for an undisclosed crime he had committed. However, he put the wrong foot while escaping and injured himself which later resulted to his death.

CP Edgal also said that the natives doctors mentioned to be accomplices to the group were arrested while a dane gun and assorted charms were recovered from them. He said that the suspects will be charged for conspiracy and murder after the conclusion of the investigations.
However, the two suspected native doctors denied any relationship with the group or providing any charms for them.
They claimed that they were into making of masquerades and had nothing to do with the group. Other suspects also denied their involvement in the murder of the late police officer but the police insisted that they were culpable and will face prosecution.
