Woman Batters Caretaker Over Quit Notice
CYRIACUS IZUEKWE
A house caretaker in Lagos, Mr. Gabriel Akinlolu, may be regretting his decision to serve one of his female tenants, Mrs. Rebecca Olawale, a quit notice to park out from an apartment she had occupied as directed by the landlord.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the tenant, Mrs. Olawale vented her anger over the economic situation on Akinlolu and battered him for attempting to paste the notice on her apartment.
The incident happened at Abundance Avenue in Ejigbo, Lagos, where Mrs. Olawale resided with her family.
The embittered woman had claimed that the caretaker, Mr. Akinlolu, deliberately served her the notice whereas he knew that she will not be able to pay arrears of rent or get another accommodation. The victim suffered his fate after he had prepared the notice, went to paste it in front of the suspect’s door and she warned him not to do so. When the victim insisted on pasting the notice, she came out, grabbed him, tore his clothes and battered him.
P.M.EXPRESS scooped that when the victim attempted to put up resistance as a man, the suspect then applied more force, took the notice from him and tore it into pieces.
The matter was reported to the police at Ejigbo Division; she was arrested and later charged before Ejigbo Magistrates court for assault.
She pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector G Simon, did not oppose her bail but asked the court for a short adjournment for hearing.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni, granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She was remanded in prison custody pending when she will perfect her bail.
The matter was adjourned till 13th August, 2018.
