Tragedy struck in Imo State after a widow, Mrs. Mercy Ibeto, mobilized her children and forcefully chased away her husband’s elder brother, Mr. Lazarus Ibeto, and took over the whole compound. She slumped and died mysteriously.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the shocking incident happened at Umuegbu, Ogbaku town in Mbaitolu Ikeduru Local Government area of Imo State.

It was gathered that the woman’s brother-in-law, Mr. Lazarus Ibeto, who resided at Kamoru Ejigbo, Lagos, had raised money and built a six bedroom apartment in their village. After the completion of the house, he asked his late younger brother and his family to stay in the house since he was still living in the city.

However, Lazarus lost his younger brother and after the burial he returned to Lagos where he resided with his family. It was gathered that the widow later sent a message to Lazarus to come back and pick his belongings in the house as she was not ready to stay with him under the same roof. She equally claimed as stated in the message that it was her husband that built the house.

Mr. Lazarus then returned to the village to find out what happened. On getting to the compound, Mercy had already mobilized his grown up children and they did not allow him to enter. They chased him away with the threat that if he tried to enter the premises that they will kill him.

The matter was reported to members of their kindred as they knew that it was Lazarus that built the house but only asked his later younger brother to stay with his family and take care of the house since he was living in the city. The members of their kindred came in to settle the matter but Mrs. Mercy insisted that the house belonged to her late husband. She said that she will not agree with them unless her husband was brought back to life to tell her and the children that it was his brother, Lazarus, that built the house.

P.M.EXPRESS gathered that after the effort by members of their kindred failed, the entire community then waded into the matter yet Mrs. Mercy refused insisting that her brother-in-law, Lazarus, will not enter the house with any of his nuclear family.

People in the community were said to have become angry about Mrs. Mercy’s stance and pleaded with her brother-in-law, Lazarus, to withhold action and allow God to judge the matter since the woman knew the truth but was claiming what did not belong to her husband. The community then arranged and allocated another plot of land to Lazarus and offered to assist him individually to build another house.

Not too long after that incident, Mrs. Mercy was said to have slumped in the compound and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital. She died on the way to the hospital, doctors merely certified her dead and her body was deposited at the mortuary. When Mrs. Mercy’s children heard what happened, they moved into the house, parked all their belongings and ran away because of the sudden death of their mother.

The house in question was said to be empty, even her brother-in-law, Lazarus, was still shocked over the incident and equally refused to enter the house.
Some of the indigenes who knew what happened said that they were not surprised because it seemed that the judgment of God had started. They said that the woman had refused to do the right thing even when the whole community told her the truth but she remained adamant.
