13,000 Runners Ready For Lagos Women Run On Saturday

The city of Lagos is going to hit another milestone in history on Saturday, 9 November when the 2019 Lagos Women Run gets underway.

The organisers have announced that about 13, 000 women will participate in the one day 10km race specifically packaged for Nigerian women to exercise their bodies, socialize and engage in meaningful networking that will positively impact their life.

General Coordinator of Lagos Women Run, Ms. Tayo Popoola said during a press conference held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos that all is now set for the race, adding that every logistic needed for smooth organisation of the run has been put in place in readiness for the participants to hit the road on Saturday.

“We are ready for the run on Saturday. This race is all about fun and well being of our women. The routes of the race are specifically marked because they contain some important historical and tourism messages for us to showcase the rich heritage of Lagos State,” Popoola said.

She disclosed that due to the support of more sponsors this year, the prize money for winners have been increased, adding that overall winner will pocket the sum of N750,000 as against N500,000 received last year.

“The run is not about winning prizes, but about fun and the positive takeaways which the participants will gain at the end of the day,” she said.

Popoola revealed that the organisers will provide free buses for participants at Ikorodu, Orile and National stadium down to the race starting point at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Onikan by 5am so that they could get the centre early on Saturday. The race is expected to end at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

Meanwhile, major sponsor, Bet9ja has said that its support for Lagos Women Run is one of its own way of giving back to the society.

Ms. Kiki Boboye, Head of Human Resources of the company said that Bet9ja is glad to identify with the event because the race has meaning, which is calling out Nigerian women to engage in sporting activities.

Activities leading to the race proper started on Tuesday with an Expo at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.
