2 Church Members Land In Trouble For Allegedly Exposing Their Pastor On Social Media

Two members of the Faith and Miracle International Church in Ibadan, Oyo State, have landed in trouble for allegedly for allegedly exposing and defaming the character of their Pastor, Gbemiga David, on the social media.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspects, Tofunmi Oluwaseun, 21, and Ibikunle Akanbi, 46, were arrested and charged before the Iyaganku Magistrate Court in Ibadan for conspiracy, defamation and conduct likely to cause the breach of public peace.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Adeshina Folaranmi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on 2nd October, 2025 at about 1.21 pm at Awotan, Ibadan area of the State.
According to Inspector Folaranmi, the defendants allegedly published a defamatory statement on Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook against their Pastor, Gbemiga David.
He stated that the defendants’ aim was to tarnish the Pastor’s image and that of the church.
The prosecutor said the defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by calling the Pastor a mad man and alleging that people used to die in his church.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 516, 375 and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty.
The Counsel for the defendants, Mr. Dotun Akinsanmi, appealed that they be granted bail in the most liberal terms because the alleged crimes committed were bailable offences.
The Presiding Magistrate, Oluwabusayo Oshodi, therefore, granted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each and two sureties each in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 29th January, 2026, for hearing while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
