Two hotel attendants, Jeremiah Hiale, 40 and Rexton Boulor, 40, have landed in trouble in Lagos State after the owner of the hotel, Obidigbo Amako, alleged that they stole N5m realized from lodging accommodation.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Kamalu Hotel located at Baale Street, Ago Okota area of Lagos State, where the suspects were employed as attendants.
According to sources, the owner of the hotel suspected that the suspects did not render proper account. He therefore, calculated the money and concluded that they realized the money in question from lodgers and asked them to pay the said sum of money.
They were handed over to the Police and asked to pay the said money despite the fact that their salaries were less than N30,000 every month and they were unable to afford it.
Consequently, the Police charged them before the Isolo Magistrate Court for conspiracy and stealing.
The Police alleged that between January, 2023 and August, 2023, the defendants conspired and stole the money and thereby committed the alleged offence, which contravened the provisions of Section 411and 287 of the criminal code.
However, they pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Mr. Oje Uagbale, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty before the Court to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Akokhia, granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified.
They were remanded in custody at the Correctional Centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the matter was adjourned till 30th October, 2023, for mention.
