2 Men Arraigned For Willfully Damaging N60m House & Carting Away Iron Rods Worth N20m

Two men, Segun Akinfenwa,44 and Banjo Haleem, 47, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly demolishing a duplex worth N60m and carting away iron rods worth N20m belonging to Chinedu Edumonu Raphael.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened sometime in November,2024 in Ikeja area of Lagos where the house is located and the defendants allegedly damaged the house and stole the items.
They were charged with conspiracy, wilfully damage and stealing under the Criminal law of the State and remanded in custody over their alleged conduct against the complainant.
According to the Police, the suspects went to the house when the owner was not around, with some workers and damaged it. And thereafter, they carted away the iron rods and sold them.
The matter was reported to the Police operatives at the Tactical Squad Isheri, Magodo of the Lagos State Command. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested the suspects and detained them for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
Count 1.”That you, Sequn Akinfenwa “M” and Banjo Haleem and others now at large sometime in November 2024, in the Ikeja Magisterial district, did conspire amongst yourselves to willfully damage one duplex house property of Chinedu Edumonu “M” valued at N60,000,000 sixty million Naira and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.”
Count 2.”That you, Segun Akinfenwa “M” on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did willfully damage one duplex, property of Chinedu Edumonu “M” valued at N60,000.00 Sixty million Naira thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 350 of criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.”
Count 3.”That you, Banjo Haleem “M” on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did steal iron rods valued at N20,000.000 property of Chinedu Edumonu Rapheal “M” thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.”
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted them bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
