2 Men Docked Over Attempt To Deposit Printed Fake Naira Notes With POS Operator

Two men, Ogonna Amachi, 36 and Chinwendu Igwe, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly attempting to deposit fake Naira notes through POS operator before they were caught.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Arena Shopping Complex, Oshodi area of Lagos, after they were found with N122, 000 fake Naira notes in N1000 denomination.
According to the Police, the suspects were alleged to have printed the notes and took them to Arena Shopping Complex with the notes having the same serial number, 08/668155 and deposited same with the POS Operator, Blessing John, to be transferred into an account.
However, the operator identified that they were counterfeit notes and raised alarm, which attracted other people in the complex. They were then apprehended and handed over to the Police for interrogation over their alleged conduct.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted that they were fake Naira notes but did not disclose much of how they printed the money. The Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
They pleaded not guilty when they were arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Atafo Remilekun, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Folashade Hughes, granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional centre at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
