Two men, Ibrahim Mohammed and Sani Abubakar, who allegedly raided a farm and killed its owner, Malam Abubakar Umar, have been sentenced to death by hanging in Kano State.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that it was the judgment of the Kano State High Court, which found them guilty of conspiracy, armed robbery and murder and then sentenced them accordingly over the dastardly act.
In the judgment, the presiding judge, Justice Aliyu Abdullahi, found the convicts guilty for shooting the deceased dead and leaving behind a trail of destruction in the farm.
The incident happened in 2024, which drew the attention of members of the public over the brutal killing of the farmer.
The convicted men, Mohammed and Abubakar, were charged for armed robbery and murder following the fatal incident that occurred last year after they were eventually arrested by the Police.
The prosecution told the Court that the convicts, armed with weapons, stormed the farm located in the outskirts of Kano, intending to steal valuables. In the process, they attacked the owner,  Malam Abubakar Umar, and shot him dead, later escaped and were at large.
However, the diligent efforts of the law enforcement agents led to their eventual arrest and being charged before the Court for the alleged offence.
The Court, presided over by Justice Abdullahi, found the defendants guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and sentenced them to death by hanging.
The presiding judge emphasized the severity of the crime, noting that the attack on the victim was not only a brutal act of violence but also a blatant violation of the sanctity of human life.
In addition to the death sentence, the Court ordered that the convicts properties deemed to have been acquired through illicit means be confiscated.
This ruling has been hailed by many as a step towards strengthening the fight against violent crime in the region, sending a clear message to criminals that justice will be served as well showing the effectiveness of the judicial system in addressing heinous crimes and the need for deterrence in tackling criminal activities.
