A Police Inspector, Shaibu Omachonu, attached to the Life Camp Police Station, FCT, Abuja, had a nasty experience where he went for an official duty to an estate to arrest a suspect as he was dislodged, beaten up and detained by two security guards for coming to effect arrest.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened 27th February, 2023, at Efab Estate, Life Camp, Abuja, where the suspects were on duty and the complainant went to arrest a suspect.
The two security guards, Nevkaa Terhenem and Titus Istifanus, both of Spytech Security Organisation, Abuja, were later arrested and arraigned before Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly assaulting a Police officer.
The defendants, Terhenem and Istifanus, are facing a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, obstructing public servant in the discharge of duty, assault of a Police officer in uniform and screening of an offender.
The Prosecution Counsel, Stanley Nwafoaku, told the Court that the matter was reported by the complainant, Inspector Omachonu, attached to the Life Camp Police Station after the assault.
The prosecutor further alleged that the complainant, on the same date, went to Efab Estate, Life Camp, Abuja, where the defendants were on duty to arrest a suspect. The defendants, however, obstructed him, confined him in the estate by locking him up with a padlock.
The prosecutor further stated that the defendants also assaulted the complainant while in uniform and in the process, the suspect escaped. He stated that the alleged offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 97,257,148,265 and 167 of the Penal Code.
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The Presiding Judge, Muhammed Wakili, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each and a surety in like sum and directed that the sureties must provide passport photographs, any valid means of identification and a BVN printout from their banks.
The matter was adjourned till 28th April, 2023, for hearing while the defendants were remanded in custody pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
