2-Storey Building Sealed After Being Gutted By Fire In Lagos
A two-storey building has been gutted by fire and all the properties inside flats on the last floor including the building walls were destroyed before the firefighters raced to the scene and quenched the fire.
The incident happened on Monday at 29 Taiwo Street in Ejigbo, Lagos.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the state government has therefore sealed the house and ordered other tenants to vacate immediately in order to forestall further damage.
It was gathered that the walls had become so weak and that the building may collapse owing to the intensity of the fire that lasted for several hours. The cause of the fire was not clearly known as there were two angles to it.
The first angle was that a child put on the cooking gas, lighted a match and the whole kitchen went up in flames.
Another angle was that it was an air-conditioner that exploded and caught fire which spread to the roof and caused the destruction that took place.
The fire was reportedly on for several hours, the residents tried to stop it to no avail until the Lagos State firefighters intervened. Before then, the damaged had been done and the victims were counting their losses.
P.M.EXPRESS reports there was no official report on the real cause of the fire incident as it was gathered that investigation has commenced but not concluded yet.
When our reporter visited the scene, the tenants were seen moving their properties from the house lamenting the damage caused by the fire.
Some of the victims refused to talk as one them said she had lost money, vital documents and house properties worth millions of naira.
The police patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer DPO, one Gwazah was seen with the men inspecting the house.
