2 Suspected Kidnappers Arrested While Negotiating N30m Ransom

The Police in Lagos have arrested two suspected kidnappers, Alhaji Muhibudeen Akorede and Thoa Akorede, and rescued their victim, Matthew Isichei Chukwuebuka, 19, kept in their captivity for nine days while negotiating for N30m ransom.

P.M.EXPRESS reports as was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, in Lagos. He said that on 4th July, 2019, at about 1216hrs, operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) followed up a petition referred to the Command by the Force Headquarters Abuja to Ibadan, Oyo State. The operatives acted on credible intelligence with the support of Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) and it paid off.
DSP Elkana revealed that the Police arrested two suspects at Ibadan namely, Thoa Akorede and Alhaji Muhibudeen Akorede. The victim, Matthew Isichei Chukwuebuka, 19, was rescued after they had kept him in their custody for a period of nine days (9days) without being fed and subjected to inhuman treatment.
Elkana said that in his statement, the victim stated that he was called through his phone, that he did not know how he got to Ibadan. He said that on arrival, he was given something from a black pot to eat. He stated that he lost his senses and was ordered to surrender his phone to them and the phone was programmed to reject any incoming calls except the only line through which they were demanding the ransom from the victim`s relations.

The victim said that they collected all the money in his possession and demanded for more. He was reportedly taken to an ATM point, where they withdrew the sum of N10,000 from his account. They demanded the sum of thirty million Naira (N30,000,000) to be paid into the victim’s bank account as ransom. The victim has since been reunited with his family.
According to DSP Elkana, the suspects has been charged to Court and remanded in prison custody.
