2 Suspected Vandals Arrested For Carting Away Cables Supplying Electricity At Alausa

Alausa area of Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State, was reportedly thrown into darkness after two men suspected to be vandals tempered with the transformer and carted away cables supplying electricity to the area. 

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the two suspects, Emmanuel  Afolabi, 21 and Isa Umar, 19, were arrested by the Police operatives from Alausa Division for stealing the cables worth over N2.6m.

The incident happened on 14th June, 2025 at Lagos Internal Revenue, Alausa, Ikeja.

According to the Police, the suspects invaded the place in the early hours of the morning, stole the items and tried to escape before they were apprehended by the Police on routine monitoring in the area. They were detained at the station for interrogation over their alleged conduct.

After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence which attracts several years of imprisonment.

The charges read:

“That you, Emmanuel Afolabi ‘M’, and Isa Umar ‘M’, on the 14th day of June, 2025  about 1000hrs at Lagos State Internal Revenue, Alausa Ikeja, in the Ikeja Magisteria District, did conspire among yourselves to commit Felony to Wit Stealing and thereby committed an offence and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

COUNT II:”That you, Emmanuel Afolabi ‘M’, and Isa Umar ‘M’ on the same Date, Time and Place, in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal cables value Two Million Six Hundred Thousand Naira N2,600,000:00k property of F & M Acme Enterprise Ltd, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos State and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.”

COUNT III:”That you, Emmanuel Afolabi ‘M’, on same Date, Time and Place in aforesaid Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”

However, they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Tanimola, granted them bail with two sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.

The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
