2019 NYG Zonal Elimination: More Victories For Team Lagos In Ibadan

Team Lagos have again demonstrated their leadership in sports in the south west region of the country with resounding victories recorded in the second day of the ongoing zonal elimination championship for the 5th National Youth Games (NYG) in Ibadan, Oyo State.
As early on Saturday, the Lagos athletes have been having series of contests with the hockey female team beating their counterparts from Oyo State 3-0. The male volleyball team also walloped Team Ogun 2-0.
In cricket against Team Ogun, Lagos won the toss and elected to field. Team Ogun batted and scored 41runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 10 overs. An aggressive Lagos state boys chased and scored 42 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 9.5 overs. It was however Team Lagos that won by 5 wickets.

A delighted Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandoh was so proud of his boys for being resolute and exhibiting the determined spirit Lagos team are known of when any contest is so hot.

The chairman remarked thus: “I must confess, I had given up after the first 4 overs when our run-rate was poor and I left for handball. Well done Team Lagos cricket.”
An ecstatic Director General of the Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafar also thumbed up the teams for the victories. He said: “More of good results. Great job.”
In the football event, P.M. EXPRESS gathered that Team Ekiti failed to show up on Saturday for the match they abandoned on Friday. They were walked over by Lagos male football team. Also in the female football, Team Ogun failed to show up for their match against Lagos resulting in the Lagos Amazons walking over their opponents from the Gateway state.
More games will be decided as proceedings continue at the zonal elimination for team sports ahead of the NYG which holds in Ilorin, Kwara state next month
