2027: As Ofobuike And Onwa Battle For Aguata House Seat, Umuchu Stakeholders Rally Behind “Dino” Amarube For Senate

The fierce political battle for the Aguata Federal Constituency seat between Prince Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike of APGA and Hon. John Bosco Onunkwo “Onwa” of APC has left Umuchu community divided, and stakeholders are now looking in the direction of Hon. Greg Amarube “Dino” for effective representation at the Senate.
According to political watchers in Aguata LGA, the rivalry between the two sons of Umuchu vying for the House of Representatives seat has created political uncertainty in the community ahead of the 2027 elections.
With campaigns officially beginning on August 19, 2026, Ofobuike is running on APGA platform with the backing of Governor Charles Soludo’s structure, while Onwa is flying the APC flag with federal connections. Both men are from Umuchu and both have strong followership, but only one can represent Aguata in Abuja.
Sources within Umuchu told P.M.EXPRESS that the division between the Ofobuike and Onwa camps has frustrated many stakeholders who fear Umuchu votes will be split and the community may lose out entirely.
It is against this backdrop that Hon. Greg Amarube, popularly known as “Dino”, unveiled his “Divine Mandate” to represent Anambra South Senatorial District during a town hall meeting in Umuchu on Monday, August 26, 2026.
“The mandate is not mine. It is divine. It is for the greater good of Anambra South,” Amarube told a crowd of party stakeholders, youth leaders and traditional rulers. “For too long, our people have lacked effective representation. I am answering the call to change that narrative.”
Stakeholders who spoke to P.M.EXPRESS said they may now opt to rally behind Amarube for the Senate to ensure Umuchu still produces a major political office holder in 2027, regardless of who wins the House of Reps battle.
Chief Emeka Okoye, a stakeholder from Nnewi, described Amarube’s entry as “a breath of fresh air”.
“We need people with capacity and compassion. Dino has been doing it in private. Now let him do it on a bigger stage. Anambra South needs development, not noise,” he said.
Youth groups in Ekwusigo and Ihiala also welcomed the announcement, citing Amarube’s track record in educational support and youth empowerment in Umuchu and surrounding communities.
“For years he has been paying school fees for less privileged people and giving grants without cameras. If he brings that same energy to the Senate, we will be fine,” said Chidimma Obi, Coordinator of South Youth Connect.
Political analysts say the Ofobuike vs Onwa rivalry may inadvertently boost Amarube’s senatorial ambition as stakeholders seek a unifying figure for Umuchu and Anambra South.
With the NDC and ADC candidates also in the House of Reps race, the question in Umuchu market squares and WhatsApp groups now is:
`Will the House of Reps division push Umuchu to speak with one voice for “Dino” in the Senate?`
