3 Suspected Robbers Arraigned For Stealing N1.5m iPhone Promax From Chinese

A Chinese resident in Nigeria, Jiayao Yan, had a nasty experience after robbers stole his iPhone Promax worth N1.5m and one of the robbers still swindled him the sum of N70,000 to return the stolen phone.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that three of the robbers, Sunday Lucky, 33, Adewunmi Emmanuel,  25 and Amah Ogaranya, have been arrested and charged in Lagos for conspiracy and stealing over their alleged conduct.
The incident happened on 9th December, 2025, at Opebi area of Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspects and others now at large conspired, stole the phone from the complainant and escaped. However, one of them, Sunday Lucky, contacted the complainant and extorted N70,000 from him under the false pretence of returning the stolen phone. However, no phone or the money was returned to him.
The matter was reported to the Commissioner of Police Anti Cultism team of the State Command. The operatives moved into action, eventually arrested and detained the suspects at the Command for interrogation.
After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and consequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charges read:
COUNT I: “That you, SUNDAY LUCKY ‘M’, ADEWUMI EMMANUEL, and AMAH OGARANYA ‘M’ and others now at large on the 9th day of December, 2025 at about 2300hrs at Opebi Area, Ikeja, in Ikeja Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony to wit stealing and obtaining money under false pretence and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT II:” That you, SUNDAY LUCKY ‘M’ on the same date, time, place and the aforementioned Magisterial district, did steal one iPhone 15promax valued N1,500,000.00 (One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira) belonging to one JIAYAO-YAN ‘M’ a Chinese National and thereby committed offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT III:”That you, ADEWUMI EMMANUEL ‘M’ on the same date, time, nd in the aforementioned Magisterial district, did steal one iPhone 15 valued N1,500,000.00 (One Million Five Hundred Thousand belonging to one JIAYAO-YAN ‘M’ a Chinese National and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT IV:”That you, AMAH OGARANYA ‘M’ on the same date, time, place aforementioned magisterial district, did steal one iPhone 15promax valued N1,500,000.00 (One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira) belonging to one JIAYAO-YAN ‘M’ a Chinese National and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
COUNT V:”That you, SUNDAY LUCKY ‘M’ on the 3rd and 9th day of December, 2025, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did obtained the sum of N70,000.00 (Seventy Thousand Naira) from JIAYAO-YAN ‘M’ under the pretence to returning his stolen iPhone 15promax valued N1,500,000.00 (One Million Five Hundred Thousand Naira) back to him and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 314 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.”
However, they pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ihkayere, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.A. Owolabi, granted them bail with sureties, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendants were remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when they will perfect their bail conditions.
