4 Men Arrested For Using BRT Bus Stop As Home

Police operatives from Denton Division in Lagos have arrested four men for conduct likely to cause breach of public peace by using part of the BRT Bus Stop as their living apartment while claiming that they had no means to rent apartment.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the names of the men were given as Usman Yusuf, Paul Isaac, Leo Desmond and Tunde Taofik.

The incident happened at the BRT Bus Stop located at Iddo area of Ebute Metta, Lagos.

It was gathered that the defendants claimed that they were unable to secure accommodation and so they decided to live at the bus stop pending when they will raise money to afford an apartment. They reportedly converted some portions of the bus stop to sleep at night and usually woke up very early to prepare for their various works.

However, their conditions became worse when the Police invaded the place and arrested them as criminals. They were later charged before the Ebute Metta Magistrates Court for living at BRT bus stop and carrying dangerous weapons while they were sleeping there.
The defendants pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Meriam, asked the Court to give a date for hearing to enable the Police to prove the matter against the defendants.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Ajibade, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum. They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 14th October, 2019.
