The attack unleashed against Christian worshipers at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owaluwa, Owo, Ondo-State by suspected and unknown gunmen is seen as a declaration of war and this is highly condemned by the Standup for Women Society [SWS] organization.

“Sympathising at this point in time is not all that is needed, how do we prevent reoccurrence should be our utmost concern now?” the President, Standup For Women Society, Barrister Deborah Ijadele-Adetona said in a statement on Monday.

“We are calling on all our traditional rulers, Muslim and Christian leaders, herbalists, men and women that we should act immediately, delay may be dangerous.

“It’s time for us to wake up from our slumbers and act fast, it all started like this in the North and today it has aggravated to the high level of killings, kidnapping/abductions.

“We want us to know that South West have all been encircled, by Herdsmen and Bandits whatever they are being called, they are leaving among, for them to have the effrontery of bombarding a Church in town and kill worshipers, shows that we are now in real danger, there is fire on the mountain.

“Who knows the next place of attack tomorrow? More reason why we need to arise and defend our cause and let them know that we can never be intimidated or subjugated.”

“Our urgent advice to the entire Governors of Yoruba Lands is to arise and defend our ourselves against the evil and wicked activities of Fulani’s Herdsmen in all our surroundings, to ensure that the perpetrators of the dastardly act are urgently apprehended and made to face the wrath of the Law.

“However, the Government at all levels and all security agencies must now be very vigilant more than ever and take the protection of lives and properties of the citizens more seriously.

“Therefore, Standup for Women Society is calling on President Muhammad Buhari and all the Governors of South West to please put a stop to all these senseless wanton killings and to also provide adequate protection for lives and property immediately, enough of this kind of inhumanity act against man.

“It is with a seriously traumatized heart that we commiserate with the families of the victims, the Catholic Church of Nigeria, the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN and the grieving people of Ondo State, the South West and Nigeria in general over this unimaginable tragedy,” Ijadele-Adetona said.
