NBC And The Revoked TV Licences

TEMITOPE AJAYI

Oftentimes, I asked the type of country we really desire. Each time regulator tries to enforce rules people rise up to make jejune arguments in favour of violators. And willful violators to put it in proper perspective.

All manners of press statements have been issued by so-called Civil Society groups since yesterday when NBC hammer fell on some broadcast stations both – private and public o. The most ridiculous are those talking about press freedom and emasculation of civic space.

We are talking about organisations that refused to pay their licensing fees here after repeated demands and extentions to enable them pay.

Are there no terms and conditions attached to operating the licenses? When CBN liquidates banks for insolvency do we say it was unnecessary or too harsh?

Anything media must always be excused away under the pretext of civil liberty and press freedom yet we want Nigeria to be great.
