RE: I Was Raped, Battered And Dumped – Funke Oshonaike

ADEBOBOLA ALAWODE

I would like to start this piece with an apology. Note, this apology is not meant for Funke Oshonaike, but for the management of Top Radio, most especially the Top Sports Crew. Reason being that they would play a vital role in this present impasse.

Permit me to use Ms for Oshonaike based on the interview she granted the Radio Station from her base in Hamburg, Germany recently. Maybe it is time to school Ms Oshonaike on some things she doesn’t know about journalism.

My failure not to give credit to the source of my information. Even at that, I would want Ms Oshonaike to mention the number of journalists who have interviewed her and their names. If need be, she can ask the management of Top Radio to have a repeat of the said edition to verify if what I wrote was false. After putting close to two decades in Sports Journalism, I don’t think I would be deceived into writing a false or defamatory story.

What do I stand to gain? Let me ask Ms Oshonaike how did I get to know that she has two kids in Germany? In the said program, she did tell the entire world that she was studying Nursing because she loves taking care of people.

Calls from some senior colleagues prompted me to write this piece. Even one of them, who saw the post on Ms Oshonaike’s posited that this is not the first time that she’s crying out about being raped by her husband. I also challenge her to write officially to the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, NBC to instruct the Management of Top Radio to rebroadcast the last interview she had with the radio station.

Concluding, I would state here unequivocally that I stand by the story.
