Anambra State Govt Commences Construction Of Niger Street Onitsha

Posted on January 7, 2023
The Government of Anambra State has commenced the construction of Niger Street in Onitsha, which is a link road from Bridge Head Onitsha axis to Main Market, Onitsha.
Inspecting the work as part of his oversight function, Hon Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, member representing Onitsha North 2 State Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly and APGA House of Representatives Candidate for Onitsha North/Onitsha South Federal Constituency, stated that as Mr. Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, promised that it is the start of the work.
“This is one of the key roads in Onitsha South LGA, because it is one of the road axis, which motorists can divert to that leads to the biggest market in West Africa and very close is the Wharf that I have been talking about, which has been here for long without commencing work. And I made a promise before that if elected as House of Representatives member for Onitsha North/Onitsha South Federal Constituency, I will surely make this Wharf work because Onitsha is a commerce driven town with people readily available to make use of the Wharf.”
“It will lessen the hardship our people go through in clearing their containers and goods from Lagos and what they go through in the hands of Customs and Police in bringing their containers and goods down to Onitsha by road.”
“So I’m appreciating Mr. Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, because this road is what we need.
In as much as we need this Wharf to start working we need a drive way and better road to where we can get all the goods to Main Market Onitsha.”
“This particular road is with 20 years guarantee as agreed with the construction firm handling the road.”
“I’m admonishing our people to stop the burning on the roads because as Mr. Governor is helping us, we must also have to help the environment by also keeping it clean.
I’m also admonishing, “No more littering of the roads and drainage systems” Hon Ibuzo said.
In his own speech, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, Anambra State Commissioner for Works & Infrastructure, said, “We have come to look out at what they are doing here without their knowledge. It is our duty from time to time”.
“First of all, this is a strategic road; everyone coming into Anambra must enter this road and this road is important for anyone or anything going into Main Market. And so looking around, you will see the road is in a dilapidated state and what we are doing is to do a road that is benefitting to everyone coming into here to do business.”
It will be recalled that on 15th October, 2022, Mr. Governor, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, had inspected Niger Street Onitsha with Hon Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, Chairman House Committee on Environment, Anambra State House of Assembly, who had pleaded for the construction of the road which is at the heart of his constituents and Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Mr. Solution, gave his words that the road will be done with 20 years guarantee.
