Banny Football League: Ajeigbe Tasks Lagos Govt On Sponsorship

Posted on July 18, 2023

As the Banny Football League, BFL gets set for its Season 10, the organisers of the soccer fiesta, which started in 2017 have called on well-meaning Nigerians, especially the Lagos State Government to come to its aid in sustaining the laudable initiative.

According to Oluwatosin Ajeigbe, the founder of the mini league, this has become imperative as the League, which has been nurturing competitive spirit amongst the youths in Sururlere, Lagos, is being threatened by prevailing economic realities of the country, especially the forex situation.

In a press release signed by Ajeigbe, he noted that despite the positive impact of the BFL on the youths, the community sports project’s continuity is being threatened by lack of sponsorship from government and corporate bodies.

Part of the statement reads: “It is indeed sad that this laudable project has been left to run on its own without any support from either government or the corporate entities in the country. We have done this for six years without support, and it is becoming tough in the face of rising prices of sports facilities due to the difficulty in on=obtaining forex today. Prices have tripled today more than what it was when we started this in 2017, and we cannot but appeal for support to keep the Banny Football League alive.”

Banny Football League, which kicked off from the streets of Banire, Surulere, Lagos is a football initiative which aggregates youths into notable football teams in the European League for a competitive football tournament patterned after the popular European League. So far over 500 youths have passed through the project, which has been lauded by many stakeholders as a veritable tool to protect the youths from vices such as drugs, gambling, and advance fee fraud.
