Baring any unforeseen circumstances, the anticipated general election of Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos State has been slated for 25th November, 2023, with one of the frontrunners, Chief Sunday Udeh, likely to emerge as President according to P.M.EXPRESS findings.
This was the outcome of the General Assembly meeting recently held at the Stadium, where the decision was made and candidates were asked to obtain forms for their choice positions while the delegates list is being expected this week from the various Local Councils in the State.
So far, there are only two candidates for the position of the President, namely the two factional Presidents, Chief Sunday Eze and Chief Sunday Udeh, who are billed to continue the battle over who will emerge as the President.
Chief Eze and Udeh are incumbent factional Presidents of Igbo Speaking Community, Lagos State, until peace was brokered recently and they signed an accord to abide by the outcome of the election for the interest of peace having spent huge sum of money on litigations.
From investigations, majority of the members are set to vote for Sunday Udeh as President based on so many factors in his favour. He was said to be getting backing from the members of Council of Ndieze in Lagos State, led by their Chairman, Eze Chika Nwokedi, Eze Emmanuel Ojukwu, Eze Alex Nwoye and many other traditional rulers.
Accordingly to some of the members, Chief Udeh was said to be popular among the members because of what he had done in the past and besides he was said to be behind the emergence of majority of Ndieze of the Igbo Speaking Community and even the emergence of Eze Chika Nwokedi as chairman, who many believe has the capacity to garner votes for Udeh because Nwokedi’s popularity.
The source, who did not want his name mentioned, stated that it was pay back time for Chief Udeh and besides the Council of Ndieze was recently formed and inaugurated by Udeh and there was need to support him so that the Council will consolidate during the four years he will occupy the position if he eventually wins.
On his part, Chief Sunday Eze was said to be campaigning seriously trying to break the stronghold of Chief Udeh including Oshodi, Amuwo Odofin, Oriade, Alimosho, Lagos Island, Eti-Osa, Agege Local Councils and others. But the challenge he was said to be facing in those LCDAs is the influence of Ndieze, who are backing Udeh.
The fight between Udeh and Eze was said to be more complicated as they battle to become the President of the Igbo Speaking community as they had been battling to install their loyal members to occupy other elective positions such as Deputy, General Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasury and others, so as to be in control.
It is not yet known how Chief Eze will break Udeh’s stronghold as the election is barely weeks away unless it will be postponed. P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the Court is yet to endorse their accord as Consent Judgment as they agreed to do so at the general meeting.
