The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, has declared that the Federal Government will begin the withdrawal of Police personnel as VIP escorts.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Minister stated this on Monday at a two-day retreat of Directorate Cadre held in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
She stated that the major duties of the Police in society are to develop a security-built environment and to achieve this, a community policing strategy must be in place.
At the retreat, she further stated that the key mandate of the Ministry of Police Affairs was developing and implementing harmonized Police reform reports and amending the Police Act, which will resolve Police personnel being pulled back working as VIP escorts.
She explained that the mandates were not mere tasks but transformative initiatives that could enhance internal Police security in Nigeria.
Thus, the retreat was majorly targeted at improving efficiency and enhancing the performance of the Police service in the face of the global dynamics.
It will recalled that the Federal Government had earlier stated that it will withdraw Police personnel from VIPs but the policy was not immediately implemented and probably the implementation will start soon as declared by the Honourable Minister at the retreat.
