In order to ensure sanity and orderliness in the Anambra state capital, the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has issued an ultimatum to all those trading along the roads in the state capital and obstructing both human and vehicular movements to as a matter of urgent public importance evacuate them on or before 15th December or face dire consequences.
The MD/CEO of ACTDA, Hon. David Osita Onuko, who gave the ultimatum in a press statement on Monday, said his agency will not temper justice with mercy should the 15th December deadline elapse, emphasizing that defaulters have been forewarned by his press statement cum public notice.
He said streets that would be affected during the demolition exercise includes Unizik junction to Isuaniocha in Awka-North, the popular Club road in Awka, Ifite Awka road and some others within the capital city.
His press statement reads, “It has come to the notice of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) that street trading has resurfaced especially on some of the new roads the governor has constructed thereby defacing the aesthetics and beauty of those roads.
“Recall that in the past one year, we have repeatedly declared war on street trading and obstruction of the motor way by petty traders who left their shops to trade on the roads.
“So we are giving this notice as an ultimatum to them that by the 15th of this month, we are going to massively engage in destruction of goods we find on the roads; obstructing motor way and causing gridlocks especially those who sell goods and render services on the new dual carriage way from the Unizik junction to Isuaniocha.
The popular Club road, the old INEC road, Regina Caeli road, Aroma junction, Government House road and Ifite Awka road too. This is a clear warning to them that they should as a matter of urgency desist forthwith from indulging in such practice.
“15th December is the deadline and we will engage in massive destruction of these goods when we see them on the roads.”
