Dear Coach Finidi George,

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the recent performance of the Nigeria U-17 WAFU B Golden Eaglets and my apprehension about our chances in the upcoming senior World Cup in the USA in 2026. I apologize if my previous letter came across as critical, but I believe it is essential to address these issues.

During yesterday’s game, the team displayed a very poor defence, weak attack, and questionable player selection. I believe the combination of Paul Onuachu, Alex Iwobi, and others exposed our goalkeeper and left our defence vulnerable. I urge you to carefully analyze the game and the selection decisions made, as they did not yield the desired results.

In particular, Ajayi and Bassey failed to provide a solid defence, often being apart from each other, which led to the goal against Nigeria by South Africa. The upcoming game against Benin Republic should be treated as a must-win match, considering it as a final before the final. It is an essential step towards qualifying for the World Cup in the USA in 2026, a draw on our home turf was equivalent to a loss. We cannot afford to lose this important game against Benin Republic or any other matches leading up to the World Cup.

While Lookman showcased his talent and was the standout player, there were moments when he appeared selfish. I believe a more distributive game could have secured us a three-point victory against South Africa if Lookman’s passing had met the necessary requirements.

Dele-Bashiru and Tanimu had impressive outings, but there is still room for improvement. Alex Iwobi, though a strategic player, seems to rely too much on his predecessors’ legacy J.J Okocha and needs to adapt to the dynamics of the game.

Starting Paul Onuachu was a mistake, as he proved to be a poor striker who lacks the necessary techniques and skills to finish a match effectively.

As the coach, I believe you need more comprehensive experience in player selection and game management. The selection of players in recent games under your guidance has raised concerns about your ability to make clear and competitive decisions. I urge you to carefully evaluate your strategies and player choices, especially based on the game against South Africa.

South Africa clearly left with a point, and it is evident that adjustments need to be made. The upcoming matches should be approached with a renewed focus on selecting the best players and implementing effective tactics.
