Man Attempts Suicide On Telcoms Mast After Losing N.7m To Fraudster

It took spirited efforts by the police officers at Area M Command, Idimu, Lagos to convince a young man who climbed MTN communication mast to commit suicide, to have a change of mind.
The incident happened at Alhaji Taiwo Olorufumi Street, Idimu, Lagos.
It was gathered that the man simply identified as Michael was duped N700,000 which he paid to a yet-to-be-identified man to procure a travel visa for him, to enable him travel abroad for greener pastures.
However the man went away with his money and did not procure any travelling documents for him.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Area Commander and the DPO relocated to the scene and used megaphone to plead with him to come down.
It lasted from 7 a.m till 9 p.m before he changed his mind and came down.
He was thereafter taken to the police station where the he was interrogated to ascertain his mental status.
When our correspondent visited the Idimu Police Division, Michael was kept over the counter with close watch on him .
Our correspondent contacted the Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police , ACP Austin Akika, and he confirmed the incident but declined to make further comments, saying that the matter was under investigation.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident virtually slowed down economic activities in the area as some of the residents embarked on prayers asking God to intervene and change Michael’s mind to come down from the mast.
It was gathered that it was not the first time such incident had happened in Idimu area.
Earlier in the year another person was rescued by the police at Cavalry area of Idimu.
It was later discovered that he had mental problem and did so out of frustration.
Police sources said that since Michael was rescued, he has refused to eat anything and the DPO was said to be pleading with him to eat something to no avail.
