ONC Defends Dr Ogbuku’s NDDC Leadership & Urges Support For Continued Progress

Posted on September 8, 2024
In a swift response to recent criticisms directed at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and its Managing Director, Dr. Sam Ogbuku, the Orashi National Congress, ONC, has come forward to set the records straight.
In a statement released by the President General of ONC, Snr. Comrade Amb Emeni Ibe, the group addressed the calls for a forensic audit of the NDDC and the removal of Dr. Ogbuku, describing these actions as unwarranted and based on misinformation.
“Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership has been characterized by transparency, accountability, and a focused commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region,” the ONC stated.
“His tenure has brought the much-needed stability to the commission, ensuring that resources are effectively utilized for the benefit of our people.”
The call for a forensic audit and the removal of Dr. Ogbuku was recently made by Chief Michael Johnny, who claimed that such actions were necessary to address alleged irregularities within the NDDC.
However, the group vehemently disagreed, emphasizing the progress that has been made under Dr. Ogbuku’s leadership and the positive impact on the region.
“As stakeholders in the Niger Delta, we must correct the misinformation being circulated. The NDDC, under Dr. Ogbuku’s guidance, has made significant strides, and these achievements should be recognized and built upon.”
They further urged President Bola Tinubu to disregard the calls for an audit and instead support Dr. Ogbuku’s continued leadership to maintain the momentum of development in the region.
Highlighting the tangible results delivered by the NDDC under Dr. Ogbuku’s management, the ONC stressed that the commission has been pivotal in implementing projects that directly benefit the Niger Delta communities. These projects have ranged from infrastructure development to social programmes aimed at improving the quality of life for the region’s inhabitants.
“Rather than spread unfounded allegations, it is imperative that we focus on the progress that has been made and work together to achieve even more,” the ONC added, calling on all stakeholders to unite in support of the NDDC’s efforts.
The statement was concluded with a strong appeal for continuity in the commission’s leadership, suggesting that Dr. Ogbuku’s re-appointment would be crucial for sustaining and advancing the developmental gains already achieved.
This development comes as the NDDC continues its work in addressing the infrastructural and economic challenges in the Niger Delta, a region that has long been at the center of Nigeria’s oil production and economic activities. The support from key stakeholders like the Orashi National Congress underscores the importance of stable and effective leadership in driving sustainable development in the area.
