NYG: Team Lagos Receive Applause From Youth Commissioner, DG Sports Commission

The Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende and the Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu have expressed satisfaction with the performance of Team Lagos in the ongoing National Youths Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Team Lagos are posting a good posture in their different events as four pugilists comprising of Agboola Oyindamola,Bello Lawal,Yakubu Sofiat and Bolarinwa Michael smashed gold medals in 40kg,42kg,44kg and 42kg respectively.

Their performances on the boxing ring showcased the state government efforts in promoting grassroots sports; the ability of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for ensuring that the athletes get the right platform to demonstrate their grit and strength in a venture that tends to shape careers to become wholesome ambassadors.

Winning all the gold medals available in the boxing event is a testament to the significant role of the state of aquatic splendour in giving the right opportunities for budding talents to thrive.

In football, Lagos girls were too powerful for Bayelsians as their impressive display saw the Eko girls retaining the title won in the previous edition after a two to nil score line in the final played at St.Patrick Secondary School Asaba.

The encounter between Lagos and Bayelsa proved the girls from the commercial nerve center of the country, were determined, focused and persevere with the ways and manners they held their opponents at bay at all the strategic positions on the field of play.

Two goals from Kemi Adegbuyi and Aminat Adebisi were what the celebrated Lagos girls needed in winning the title for the second consecutive time.

In Hockey, A lone goal from Muinat Adebisi of Team Lagos was the decider in the final match against their rivals from the northern side, Kaduna.

Lagos girls did not leave any stone unturned in their face off with Kaduna as the level of their defence, attacks and shots in front of goals were marvelous.

With their golden hockey sticks they ran a wonderful campaign without loosing a match en route to the final before Muinat lone goal condemned their opponents to settle for the second position.

While commending the athletes heroics performance,Commissioner for Youths and Social Development said the resources approved in sporting activities have not been wasted,owing to the athletes show across various disciplines.

DG LSSC also hailed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the opportunity given to the U-15 athletes to showcase their talents, adding that the trajectory will be followed going forward.

Earlier, Team squash scooped four medals; two gold and two silver. Today,  all roads will lead to AGGS where Team Abula had set up another final against Oyo. They staged a comeback show in the Semi-finals to win Bayelsa 2-1.
